If prowling flea markets and yard sales is your thing, you probably already have a pretty good sense of what you should and SHOULD NOT buy. Anthony Toderian is a spokeman for CSA Group a safety certification and testing organization. He says shows like 'Storage Wars' have turned treasure hunting into a sport for the masses.

"It's not just yard sales and flea markets and things like that, but also television has made some of these storage auctions really popular, where there's a lot of second hand items as well as some of these estate auctions and things like that."

Some things to be aware of: Look for safety certification marks on gas or electrical items. If it isn't there, walk away. Used construction, bicycle or hockey helmets should be avoided -- you don't know if the protection ability of those items has been compromised.
